Testimonials
Written by Beth Sharp-who acted in a film about bullying called Another Day Another Fight and was involved in the Edit.

When our class were first told about the First Light competition we spent a lot of time thinking about what we would send in, and then entered our ideas. We never imagined we'd get through, especially as they were only choosing 4 out of many schools that had applied. The prize was a budget to make our film with the help of Film Industry professionals. When we found out that we'd won we couldn't stop thinking about it, or talking about it! Our imaginations were going crazy as we tried to make our small idea into a film.

The director/producer/everything, Justin Edgar that was assigned to us was brilliant. He helped us transform our ideas into a film script. Eventually, 3 scripts later, we were able to start making it real. We began rehearsing and planning. We had a brilliant workshop from an Art Director who gave us ideas on how to design our sets. The costume and set designers in our group then spent all their time turning our school into a run down school, and a classroom became a teenage girl's bedroom.

Much to our surprise we managed to get the whole thing filmed in 2 days. The first scene we filmed took 7 hours, (although the scene has now been edited to not much over a minute or 2!) and by the end of it we were all exhausted, over heated, and probably not in the best of moods. We were all glad to get it finished and go home.

During the editing though, I totally changed my attitude towards the whole thing. As I started to see all our hard work turn into a flowing piece of film, the way it came together was fascinating. Now I just can't wait to see it finished.

Overall I think it was an amazing opportunity. We learnt how particular you have to be if you want a film to look perfect, and how much work (and time!) you have to put into making a film. I'm very grateful to Miss Duck, First Light for choosing us and to Justin for putting up with the huge overload of moody girls, and working so hard for us!

Dear Justin,

On behalf of the team and myself who took part in making the short film King Fu I would just like to say thank you for helping us and showing us how a film is made. It was a very enjoyable moment that I hope to do again.

best wishes from Scott Swadkins (Sarius)

  • And now our time is nearly done,
  • We'd like to tell you how much fun,
  • We've all had the last few weeks,
  • Making this movie, we reached a peak
  • You have given us all the chance,
  • To show the rest that we can achieve the best,
  • To show the world and everyone,
  • That making movies is lots fun.
  • But when we tried to put it in a rap,
  • It came out like a load of crap.
  • Thanks to Justin and his pack,
  • Don't forget us,
  • We will be back.
